Cost-share assistance applications for cover crops and conservation practices being accepted for 2011 program

DOVER (July 26, 2011) – The Kent and Sussex Conservation Districts will be accepting applications for cost-sharing assistance on cover crops and other conservation practices beginning Monday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 5, and again from Monday, Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12.  The hours are from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. This is the only sign-up period for this program and it will not be extended. All applications will be ranked based on need and funding availability.

Eligible conservation practices include cover crops, manure storage structures, poultry composters, heavy use area protection, poultry windbreaks, poultry incinerators, agricultural waste systems, wildlife habitat ponds, vegetative shoreline stabilizations, water management, and more. These conservation practices have many positive environmental benefits such as reducing excess nutrients, improving ground water quality, and preventing soil erosion.

Sussex County landowners may apply in person at the USDA Service Center located at 21315 Berlin Road, Unit 4, in Georgetown.  Kent County landowners may apply in person at the USDA Service Center located at 800 Bay Road, Suite 2, in Dover.
