Nanticoke Watershed Alliance Awarded $35,000 from the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network!
The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance was awarded $35,000 from the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network to promote recreation and access on the Nanticoke River Water Trail in support of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail!
The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance Agrees To:
1. Design specifications, permitting and cost estimates for a kayak and canoe launch at the John Smith Trail Discovery Center (shovel ready plan) in Vienna, MD.
2. Produce a comprehensive online guide for the Maryland portion of the Nanticoke River Water Trail
3. Develop an insert for Nanticoke River Water Trail – DE map and guide.
The National Park Service is committed to the development of recreational opportunities for all citizens and to a mission of education centered on the abundance of cultural and natural resources in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. In collaboration with many partners, the National Park Service works to expand public access to the Chesapeake Bay and tributary rivers, build visitor experiences along two national historic trails, develop teacher resources in line with state standards, expand service and employment opportunities for youth, and continue to enhance online and virtual experiences with advanced technologies.
