ESLC Announces Guided Bird Tours on Shore

Dorchester, Cecil Properties Sites for Two Events

Eastern Shore Land Conservancy has announced two guided bird tours this season. The two tours will be held on Friday, September 2nd  in Dorchester County and Saturday, October 8 in Cecil County.

Thanks to the generosity of one of ESLC’s conservation easement donors, September’s Dorchester tour takes place at a private property on the Transquaking River . The walk will guide visitors along the Transquaking River, through open meadows and into a lowland forest in search of fall migrants, waders, eagles and other Dorchester specialties.

October’s Cecil Tour takes place thanks to the generosity of an ESLC Director, who will open up his farm in the Elk River for the guided bird walk. This walk will take visitors around fields, hedgerows and forest edge along the Elk River in search of fall migrants including songbirds, waterfowl and raptors. Both tours will be led by lifelong birder and ESLC Land Protection Specialist, Jared Parks.

Registrants for the September tour will meet at 7:30 at the farm, October registrants will meet at 8 a.m. at the farm. All registrants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, bring your binoculars and bug spray and join ESLC for a great birding opportunity.

“This is a great way to spend a morning on the Shore and will provide both beginners and advanced birders a rare chance to bird on some very beautiful properties here on the Shore,” said Parks.

Cost per walk is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. A new membership package and discount is also available. Contact Jared Parks at (410) 827-9756 ext. 167 or for registration or  additional details.
