Please join Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley for a ceremony to designate four connecting river trails as historic components of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail.
When: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 2:00pm
Where: Sandy Point State Park, East Beach Area Pavilion
1100 East College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409
The Secretarial designations will recognize the significance of the four rivers-the Susquehanna, Chester, Upper Nanticoke and Upper James Rivers-to 17th century Indian cultures and Native American trade routes. These connecting river trails are historic components of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and will provide a living link to the time John Smith explored these waters.
Please help us celebrate an action that will support tourism, river conservation, recreation, and education about a truly significant time in American history.
Please RSVP to DOI_Events@ios.doi.gov. We hope you can join us.
