Job Opportunity: Audubon Maryland in DC is seeking 2 Marsh Bird Point Count Technicians
Audubon Maryland-DC will be hiring 2 MARSH BIRD POINT COUNT TECHNICIANS (from beginning April-early July 2011) to conduct bird surveys in tidal marshes in Maryland and Virginia’s eastern shore. Technicians will support a large-scale project investigating the status and distribution of tidal marsh bird species on the N. Atlantic coast, with particular emphasis on saltmarsh sparrow, seaside sparrow, willet and clapper rail. The point count crew will conduct distance-sample point count surveys as well as broadcast surveys for secretive tidal marsh birds in selected tidal marshes.
Ideal applicants will have prior experience with point count surveys and broadcast surveys, and be willing to work long hours in remote marshes under harsh field conditions. All applicants must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record, have a working knowledge of northeastern bird identification. Housing is provided.
